Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit will last approximately one hour and will include a comprehensive evaluation and applicable treatment. Your physical therapist will review your medical history, diagnostic tests and any recent events that may have contributed to your current condition. Following your evaluation, your physical therapist will thoroughly explain your personalized treatment plan and expectations for recovery. Communication between the patient and physical therapist is of utmost importance at Positive Outcome and you are an active participant in your recovery.

What should I bring and how should I dress?

Please download, complete and bring the online forms with you for your first visit. Wear or bring comfortable loose fitting clothing so the area we are evaluating is accessible. For example, if treating a neck or shoulder problem wearing a tank top is best. Shorts or sweatpants are best if the area is the lumbar spine or lower extremity.

Do I need a script or referral from my doctor?

No script or referral is needed to be seen at Positive Outcome. Massachusetts is a direct access state which means patients are able to be seen by a physical therapist without a referral. This also means patients are able to receive immediate treatment at Positive Outcome. It’s important to note patients have a right to choose any physical therapy clinic of their choice. Please read our insurance page for information regarding reimbursement by insurances.

What will be the frequency and duration of my treatment?

Each visit is 60 minutes. The frequency of treatment is unique to each individual’s injury or condition. Positive Outcome is dedicated to returning patients to optimal health. The amount you will be reimbursed is dependent on your insurance company. If you call your insurer, be sure to ask about, “Out-Of-Network benefits for Physical Therapy”.
